Modern/Contemporary

Modern dance is an ever-changing dance form that focuses on musicality and expression to shape movements and choreography. Structured technical exercises that condition the body for strength, coordination and flexibility are also incorporated. This is an expressive style of dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, contemporary jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Modern/Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

Modern dance is an ever - changing dance form that focuses on musicality and expression to shape movements and choreography. Structured technical exercises that condition the body for strength, coordination and flexibility are also incorporated. Student typically spend two years in each level. Modern is recommended to be taken with at least, one ballet class.

2019/20 Season

PModern I/II (Ages 7-12)

Thursday 4:30-5:30pm-FULL, waitlist started

Modern III/IV (Ages 11+)

Tuesday 5:00-6:30pm

Modern/Contemporary I

Ages 7-9

Dancers perform at the Winter and Spring Recital.

Time Commitment: Once a week for 60 minutes

Recommendation: to be taken with ballet

Max Enrollment: 12 students per class

Modern/Contemporary II

Ages 8-10 years

Dancers perform at the Winter and Spring Recital.


Time Commitment: Once a week for 60 minutes

Recommendation: to be taken with ballet
Max Enrollment: 12 students per class

Modern/Contemporary III

Ages 9-13 years

Dancers perform at the Winter and Spring Recital.


Time Commitment: Once a week for 75 minutes 

Recommendation: to be taken with ballet
Max Enrollment: 15 students per class

Modern/Contemporary IV

Ages 10+ years

Dancers perform at the Winter and Spring Recital.

Time Commitment: Once a week for 75 minutes

Recommendation: to be taken with ballet

Max Enrollment: 15 students per class
