Jazz

This fun class combines upbeat, stylized movement with proper technique. Jazz dance is based on ballet principles. All jazz classes follow a traditional fun class structure consisting of a warm-up using isolated movements, across the floor progressions, and current choreography all set to age appropriate music.

 

Benefits: coordination, self confidence, flexibility, strength, and endurance

Jazz I

Ages 7-9

In Jazz I time is spent learning the names and meanings of steps as well as how to do them correctly. Students focus on building their jazz vocabulary and memory of steps, combinations, and performance pieces. Students typically spend two years in each level.

Dancers perform at the Winter and Spring Recital.

Time Commitment: Once a week for 60 minutes

Recommendation: to be taken with ballet

Max Enrollment: 12 students per class

Jazz II

Ages 8-10 years

In Jazz II student will continue to work on flexibility, musicality, vocabulary, and coordination. Students get to experiment with different rhythms and movement patterns while having fun. Students typically spend two years in each level.

 

Dancers perform at the Winter and Spring Recital.


Time Commitment: Once a week for 60 minutes

Recommendation: to be taken with ballet

Max Enrollment: 12 students per class

Jazz III

Ages 9-13 years

Jazz III dancers will continue to work on vocabulary and technique with an emphasis on learning choreography and performance quality. 

 

Dancers perform at the Winter and Spring Recital.


Time Commitment: Once a week for 60 minutes 

Recommendation: to be taken with ballet
Max Enrollment: 15 students per class

Jazz IV

Ages 10+ years

In Jazz IV dancers will continue to develop their jazz technique and flexibility while working on learning complex, challenging choreography.

 

Dancers perform at the Winter and Spring Recital.

Time Commitment: Once a week for 60 minutes

Recommendation: to be taken with ballet

Max Enrollment: 15 students per class
