Modern/Contemporary

Modern dance is an ever-changing dance form that focuses on musicality and expression to shape movements and choreography. Structured technical exercises that condition the body for strength, coordination and flexibility are also incorporated. This is an expressive style of dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, contemporary jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Modern/Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

Modern/Contemporary I

Ages 7-9

Modern/Contemporay I is expressive class that incorporates a fusion of many dance styles. Dancers are encouraged to explore their emotions and movement through improv. A strong ballet and jazz foundation enhances the quality of movement. Students typically spend two years in each level.

 

Dancers perform at the Winter and Spring Recital.

Time Commitment: Once a week for 60 minutes

Recommendation: to be taken with ballet

Max Enrollment: 12 students per class

Modern/Contemporary II

Ages 8-10 years

Modern/Contemporary II is a class that continues to explore expressive dance and includes that elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and body through their movement. At this level dancers focus on vocabulary, movement quality, flexibility, and expressionStudents typically spend two years in each level.

Dancers perform at the Winter and Spring Recital.


Time Commitment: Once a week for 60 minutes

Recommendation: to be taken with ballet
Max Enrollment: 12 students per class

Modern/Contemporary III

Ages 9-13 years

Modern/Contemporary III students continue building their foundation of modern/contemporary knowledge. Dancers begin to explore different styles of modern like Graham and HortonStudents complete this levels with a thorough knowledge to support progress to higher  levels. Students typically spend two years in each level.

 

Dancers perform at the Winter and Spring Recital.


Time Commitment: Once a week for 60 minutes 

Recommendation: to be taken with ballet
Max Enrollment: 15 students per class

Modern/Contemporary IV

Ages 10+ years

Modern/Contemporary IV dancers continue to explore emotions through dance and a variety of styles while increasing their technique, flexibility, and musicality.

 

Dancers perform at the Winter and Spring Recital.

Time Commitment: Once a week for 60 minutes

Recommendation: to be taken with ballet and stretch class

Max Enrollment: 15 students per class
