ANCHORAGE CLASSICAL BALLET ACADEMY
Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy was established in the fall of 1997 to preserve the art of classical dance while providing professional instruction to aspiring professionals and recreational dancers in the community of Anchorage, Alaska and beyond.
Unsurpassed Dance Education
The Academy is committed to excellence in dance education. The classical curriculum, based on the Vaganova Method, includes lessons in ballet technique, which includes pointe, pas de deux, character/historical dance, and repertoire. This method combined with a well-rounded education produces dancers of the highest caliber. Since its inception, the Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy has prepared many young aspiring dancers to dance professionally across Europe, Russia and North America at dance centers such as Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Kirov Academy, The Juilliard School, the Royal Ballet (UK), Elmhurst Ballet School (UK), London Studio Centre (UK), Ecole de Danse Superieure de Cannes (FR), Houston Ballet, Riverdance, and Ballet Arizona. ACBA has placed in the finals at the Youth America Grand Prix in New York City, establishing an international reputation of excellence.
Students are accepted and placed into their appropriate level according to age, talent, attitude, and musicality. Careful attention is given to introduce the advanced students to the discipline, physical demands and standards of the classical dancer. Scholarships are available for students demonstrating talent and financial need.
Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy admits students of any race, color, or national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship programs and other school-administered programs.
Emphasis on Performance
Over the last 23 years, ACBA and Anchorage Ballet has included in their annual shows guest performers from 20 different Alaska dance organizations to increase the performance and education opportunities available to students and instructors across the state. The Ballet now performs over seven performances per season. In addition, Anchorage Ballet has produced six one-act ballets, toured to Canada, and hosted guest instructors and performers from North America and abroad. It has participated in International exchanges as part of the International Exchange Program.
In 2010, the Ballet was the recipient of the Mayor’s Arts Award for Outstanding Arts Organization. The Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy won a Judge's Choice Award in the Anchorage Independence Day Parade for their float and performance. At the 2019 NUVO competition in Anchorage ACBA won Contemporary Small Group 1st place, Junior Solos, 7th, 8th, & 10th place. ACBA was the Top Rated Dance School in Alaska in 2019 by Top Rated.
